Hotel Das Cataratas was incredible. Where else do you get to wake up to a full view of one of the most incredible waterfalls in the world? Set on the Brazilian side of the Iguassu falls, it offered us luxury accommodation in stunning surroundings!
Before heading on our mini South American tour, Lucy and I had decided that our holiday was going to be more glamourous than budget to reward ourselves for the many many years of hard work and grind it took us to become qualified lawyers. Hotel Das Cataratas was the first of such treats, and what a luxury it was! It made the pain of leaving Rio all the more bearable and it was the perfect place to witness one of the incredible natural wonders of Brazil – Iguassu falls. The hotel is a splurge, but one that is absolutely worth it for special trips in my opinion.
This is one of those posts where I will let the pictures do most of the talking and even then, nothing comes close to actually being there yourself (I hope the video review I will edit shortly will give you an idea! haha). Set on a hill in the national park of Iguassu, the hotel is built in stunning colonial style, and you felt like you were staying in the home of a wealthy relative and not a commercial enterprise. We arrived on a gloriously sunny day to a warm reception from the staff and I immediately dropped my bags and ran round the hotel taking pictures.
The grounds were just stunning… How pretty is this? Inside had a homely feel which I really enjoyed as I made my way back up to our suite… We were welcomed into the deluxe room Lucy and I were to share with chocolate fondue which was quickly devoured! And then we took a step back to admire our room, not luxurious in the traditional sense, but very lovely. The sun was streaming in through the curtains, and we were able to see the quiet road leading up to the hotel beyond which we could hear (but not see) the hum of the crashing waterfalls. Free havianas were a welcome touch… After a quick shower, I could not wait to get through the yummy lunch that room service had delivered. Before it was demolished!
One of the things I loved the most about the hotel (other than the private access to the waterfalls) was how quiet it was. Although there were guests in the hotel, it often felt like you had your own space a world away from the other visitors. and of course, this was the best bit… Hotel Das Cataratas definitely comes highly recommended by me. The staff were generally faultless and friendly. However, we did have a slight hiccup with one of the guides in the hotel’s tour office who provided us with the wrong information on a couple of occasions. That was the only irritation we had during our otherwise incredible short stay. If you are looking to visit the Iguassu falls, and would like uninterrupted access to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the waterfalls, then you should check out the hotel!
